At a young age, he traveled around the world and set many Japanese records. In 2013, he returned to Japan and won seven consecutive races, becoming the JPSA Grand Champion for the third time with an unprecedented record, greatly livening up the industry and leaving a legend behind. In 2015, he was selected as the Olympic surfing delegation as the world's only professional surfer, and served as a presenter at the historic Tokyo 2020 Olympic Additional Event Review Meeting, making a significant contribution to surfing becoming an Olympic event. In 2017, he created the groundbreaking surfing event FUNTHEMENTAL, which has become an annual event due to its great popularity. In 2018, he served as captain at the ISA World Surfing Games and led "Surfing Japan" to Japan's first gold medal. He was appointed coach of the Japanese national team at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games and contributed to winning two medals, a silver for men and a bronze for women, at the first-ever surfing Olympics. He served as coach of the Japanese national team "Surfing Japan" at the 2022 ISA World Surfing Games, leading the men's team to Japan's second gold medal.
